Not necessarily. You have the option of using standard Zip (.zip) format for your backup, which does not require any special software to restore it. Once you create your backup in the .zip format, you can restore it by either unzipping the file using a zip program like TurboZIP Express, or by making your backup a self-extracting exe file that does not require any software to restore it.
You can also create backups in TurboBackup (.tbz) format, which store more detailed information than traditional Zip format, such as the source drive. Only in that case do you need TurboBackup to restore your data and files.
How do I set up an unattended backup?
